About Our Alterations Process
What Can I Submit?
Due to limited staff we are doing our best to serve as many folks as we can when our books are open. We know you may have tailoring needs, however we can only accept those with measurements included upon drop off.
Open stitches or mending, (visible or not)
repairs such as missing button, zipper replacements, darning, or other creative means to repair
Vintage refurbishment: historic or heirloom garments that you’d like restored or have elements added or subtracted.
Does your item not fit this? We also take pre-marked hems or reworks too. Pre-marked simply means, you have left a mark or safety pin, or a note card with instructions so our sewists know what to take in, up or let out.
Can I get a Fitting?
At this time we are only introducing a limited amount of fittings into our workflow. We no longer provide free fittings.
In spite of the Pandemic, Hidden Opulence has been very successful in providing tailoring with body measurements and photos alone.
Not sure if you need a fitting?
Rule of thumb: You don't need to try on your garment to explain the issue.

We now charge a scheduling fee of $5 that will be applied to your return shipping once your order is completed.
Our current turnaround time is 2-7 weeks once your order is received by us based on project difficulty.

What Happens Next?
Visiting Us
We are easy to find on Google Maps, just search Hidden Opulence HQ. We are located in the Central Eastside of Portland in the Ranchers and Gardeners Building. Our Unit is located on the far left facing MLK Jr Blvd.
Masking is now optional!
Car: There is street parking on both SE Main and Under the Hawthorne Bridge on SE Madison Street. Parking is not heavily monitored and safe just about anywhere but in front of a loading dock/driveway.
Bike: There is bike lock spot right in front of our door.
Transit: Take the Portland streetcar Loop A, PSU via OMSI and we are one block north of the ML King & Hawthorne Southbound (Stop ID: 13611) stop on MLK Jr Blvd. By Bus, take 6 and get off at the Hawthorne Bridge ramp &ML King (Stop ID: 2643)
Drop off Your Order
Before you arrive, please wash all items 24 hrs before bringing them our studio. If they are not clean or free of odors, we now charge a $25 wash fee per item.
Bring all items in a sturdy, clean bag. If needed- with all garments properly pinned with exact measurements or additional notes.
Take a coat check number and write your name and number on the back (they are hung on the intake window as pictured.)
Hang up your items on the rack under the “DROP OFF” portion.
Shipping Your Order?
Before you ship, please wash and quarantine your clothes before shipping 24 hours before shipping them. We now charge a $25 wash per item if we determine it has not been cleaned.
Put all your garments in a sturdy, clean bag with all the garments properly pinned with exact measurements or additional.
place a label on the bag with our shipping address: Hidden Opulence, 1319 SE MLK Blvd, Suite 214, Portland, Or, 97214.
Ship it off, send us your tracking and we will receive it!
Hard Part is Over!
That’s All! After you’ve dropped off your items we will be in touch with you in whatever way you indicated in your intake survey. We’ll drop you a line at each stage of the process to keep you in the loop.
We are doing away with garment pickups and all alterations will have an $3-$15 USPS return shipping fee applied to them. Fee depends on size.
All you have to do now is sit back and wait for your garments to return to your doorstep!
